NAVY RAIL GUN PROJECT: H&R
Technology has recently won a Department of Defense contract for the direct coating
of high-strength Copper Alloys with Refractory Metals, a long-standing
requirement unattainable with conventional Laser-powder, Electron-beam, or
Arc-welding overlay technologies. The refractory coatings capabilities developed
under this program are applicable to numerous commercial markets where parts operating
under conditions of high electrical currents present in high-density power systems.
Example applications could be in high current opening and closing switching devices,
high-speed maglev contacts, electrical generation facilities, and sections for
re-entry protection of spacecraft.
